Fingerprint sensors, which have long been the most important security option for iPhones and other smartphones on the market, may not be the next iPhone models. Ming-Chi Kuo, a KGI Securities analyst known for his accurate estimates about Apple, claimed that Apple would stop using the fingerprint sensor in 2018.
To be reminded, Apple introduced 3 new iPhone models in September. The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus models offer a fingerprint sensor with a Touch ID, while the 10th edition of the iPhone X features a face ID security option without using a fingerprint sensor.
In short, the face detectable TrueDepth cameras that we see on the iPhone X can be used on all iPhones to come out next year. Of course, this move is much more of a design change than security. If Apple completely abandons the fingerprint sensor, next year it may come face to face with new models with a frameless display like the iPhone X.
